ACQUISITION POLICY

Each year, the collection of the IAC – Frac Rhône-Alpes is enriched with new acquisitions thanks to the support of the French Ministry of Culture—through the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes—and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council.

An Acquisition Technical Committee (A.T.C.) proposes artworks for acquisition and reviews unsolicited submissions in accordance with the artistic and cultural objectives of the IAC – Frac Rhône-Alpes. The selection of works recommended by the Committee is then submitted for approval to the members of the Board of Directors of the IAC – Frac Rhône-Alpes.
The acquisition policy of the IAC – Frac Rhône-Alpes aims to further develop an internationally significant collection, rooted in recent art history and reflective of the most current developments in the visual arts.
It seeks to foster both national and international artistic creation while supporting the contemporary art scene in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The orientations of this acquisition policy are aligned with the encyclopedic scope of the collection, without privileging any particular medium, while placing renewed and necessary emphasis on gender parity and on the diversity of cultures.

While not exclusive, the main priorities for new acquisitions are:
• An openness to non-European artistic scenes, including Africa, the Indian Ocean region, the French Caribbean and the Caribbean, and Asia;
• A focus on living systems, our relationship to the territory and the land we inhabit, and practices of care—three interconnected themes already present within the collection;
• The use of new technologies as a means of examining the rapid transformations shaping our contemporary world.

Our acquisition policy is developed in dialogue with the collections of the Frac Auvergne, with the aim of building a complementary and diverse body of work while fostering collaboration across the wider Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Isabelle Reiher, Director of the IAC – Frac Rhône-Alpes, has brought together four distinguished figures from the contemporary art world to serve on the Technical Acquisition Committee.
