The Institute takes its creative activity ex situ with Galeries Nomades and Rendez-vous in order to extend its fields of experimentation.

In order to broaden its field of experimentation, the Institut d'Art Contemporain, Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes tours its creative activity across the entire Rhône-Alpes region, through the Galeries Nomades exhibitions.

This system enables young artists who have graduated from one of the four tertiary level art schools in the region (ENSAA Annecy, ESAD Grenoble–Valence, ENSBA Lyon, and ESAD Saint-Étienne) to take advantage of the opportunity to hold their first solo exhibition in professional conditions for the exhibition of contemporary art.

Every two years, in association with the Adera (the network of tertiary art institutions in the Rhône-Alpes region) and with co-producer partner institutions, the Institut d'Art Contemporain organises four exhibitions that give rise to the production of new artworks and a publication.

A unique creative instrument in France, Galeries Nomades constitutes a mobile laboratory for sharing the latest news in contemporary art and expressing all its vivacity in Rhône-Alpes.
