Home Sweet Home exhibition, a familiar strangeness
Conducted in partnership with two Villeurbanne schools, Collège Gilbert Chabroux and Lycée Pierre Brossolette, the Home Sweet Home exhibition explores the world of liminal spaces, places of transition that we pass through without paying them any attention: corridors, halls, waiting rooms or parking lots. Seemingly innocuous, these spaces, often empty and impersonal, are almost timeless. Stripped of their original function, they evoke a sense of floating strangeness, somewhere between disquiet and fascination.
In digital culture, this aesthetic is echoed in the concept of backrooms: a fictitious, infinite universe of banal, empty rooms in which we find ourselves trapped, as if by a bug in reality. Inspired by these ambiences, the Home Sweet Home exhibition takes us on a journey where the familiar becomes strange and everyday landmarks become blurred.
Echoing the world of parking, this exhibition was conceived by IAC guest artist Kévin Ardito and 4th-grade students from the Gilbert Chabroux middle school, who designed a video game accessible in the exhibition via an arcade terminal. This game station offers the public an immersive and interactive experience.
Students in 1ère Arts plastiques at Lycée Pierre Brossolette were involved in selecting the works to be exhibited from the collections of the Institut d'art contemporain, as well as designing the exhibition itinerary in the Parc Saint-Antoine.
“Jeunes commissaires”, an artistic and cultural education project - EAC
Home Sweet Home is part of the “Jeunes commissaires” project initiated by the Institut d'art contemporain. This artistic and cultural education program enables students to design an exhibition based on works from the Institut's collection.
For this type of project, it's important to highlight the commitment of teachers Émilie Baudrimont from Lycée Pierre Brossolette and Christian Yaka from Collège Gilbert Chabroux, as well as the involvement of the students.
LPA Mobilités, partner of the Institut d'art contemporain
As Lyon's historic parking operator, LPA Mobilités facilitates all forms of urban mobility. For over thirty years, art has been a distinctive feature of its parking lots, with a heritage of more than twenty works.
Alongside the Institut d'art contemporain, LPA Mobilités supports a program of artistic and cultural education (EAC), young artists and future audiences. This commitment testifies to the company's interest in a mediation project whose values of creativity, solidarity and diversity make sense in the daily life of LPA Mobilités. Launching an exhibition designed by secondary school students where it is least expected contributes to reinventing the daily lives of urban passengers. At LPA Mobilités, art is accessible to everyone, every day.
