An exhibition conceived by Frac Auvergne in collaboration with IAC - Institut d’art contemporain, Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes.

Featuring works by Viriya CHOTPANYAVISUT, Gregory CREWDSON, Julian FARADE, Philippe FAVIER, Stephen MAAS, Jean-Luc MYLAYNE, Sarah del PINO, Humberto RIVAS, Alain SÉCHAS, and Boyd WEBB from the collections of the regional contemporary art funds of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: The Frac Auvergne and the IAC Villeurbanne.

First, a dog with a beaming smile welcomes visitors to the exhibition, while nearby, the silhouette of a stingray floats through the air. Then, from a jumble of lines and colors, a crocodile with sharp teeth emerges, its bulging eyes fixed on a cat with its paw raised. In the background, bathed in twilight, dairy cows appear on a farm with a science fiction aesthetic, while nearby, a wide-open birdcage has allowed its occupants to escape. Throughout the exhibition, the animals come to life, animated by the energy of a pencil stroke or a halo of light. They become, in turn, characters in fantastical stories (Julian Farade) or enigmatic scenes (Gregory Crewdson, Boyd Webb), heroes of tiny, poetic tales (Philippe Favier) or figures in a new, enchanted reality (Stephen Maas). The artists in this exhibition enjoy exploring the rich diversity of the animal world, playing on the many fantasies it inspires while affirming the presence of animals and their unique way of being in the world, which is naturally different from our own.

The MuMo (Mobile Museum) was founded in 2011 by Ingrid Brochard to make contemporary art accessible to those who are isolated from it, starting from a very young age, by sharing an artistic and aesthetic experience across different regions. After an initial version designed by architect Adam Kalkin in a shipping container, a second traveling museum was created in 2017 with designer matali crasset to showcase works from the Frac (Regional Contemporary Art Funds), the Cnap (National Center for Visual Arts), and other renowned collections (LaM, CIBDI, etc.). A third museum truck, the MuMo - Centre Pompidou, was created in 2022 in collaboration with Europe's largest modern and contemporary art institution; it was designed by Hérault Arnod Architectures and artist Krijn de Koning. In January 2025, MuMo joined the Art Explora Foundation to begin a new phase of its development with the deployment of a fleet of cultural trucks and the creation of a 72-seat cinema truck in spring 2025. The Art Explora Foundation is a recognized public interest foundation working to promote the sharing of arts and culture with as many people as possible. From January 31 to May 7, 2026, MuMo - Frac will travel through the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, across Savoie and Isère, to meet 5,000 visitors, primarily residents of rural and peri-urban areas.
