Mariage, 14/06/2025 to 21/09/2025, Château des Ravalet, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France
This summer, the Château des Ravalet, an emblematic and popular venue for wedding photography, becomes the setting for a contemporary art exhibition entitled Mariage. The exhibition will explore marriage in all its facets: love, the feminine and masculine view of the codes of the amorous relationship, the celebration, the banquet, and the relationship between femininity and feminism.
"This exhibition will explore the links between art and creation around an original and rarely treated theme: marriage. It will explore its resonance with contemporary art and popular culture, notably through a collection of wedding photographs and traditional nuptial objects", explains Catherine Gentile, Deputy Director of Culture.
A PLACE, A TRADITION, AN UNUSUAL EXHIBITION
To strengthen the exhibition's local roots, the town of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin invited local residents to take part. Cherbourgeois were invited to share their wedding photographs, taken at the Château des Ravalet or in other places in the town. These images will be presented in dialogue with the contemporary works at the exhibition.
