Cocktail Sculpture

In 2009, Ann Veronica Janssens and Nathalie Ergino, director of the Institut d’art contemporain, introduced the Laboratory Space Brain which intends to explore, starting from the field of artistic testings, the practical and theoretical research enabling us to link the space and the brain. This multidisciplinary laboratory is expanding in the form of stations of which the first appearance took place in summer 2009. The artist's 'growing' Cabinet was thus embraced by this station, magnified by five additional testings, the piece of art Cocktail Sculpture included, as well as a one-feet-long cube, filled with paraffin oil and distilled water which enable to test the density of two bodies by tension and diffraction effects. Diffraction consists in the performance of waves when they hit an obstacle which is not entirely imperceptible. This phenomenon can be explained by the spread of a wave from the edges of the object. Diffraction appears simply because, the density of the wave, after having hit an object, is not preserved according to the laws of geometrical vision.
